Pedagogy Department

Historical Background

I extend warm regards from National Instructors’ College Abilonino (NICA). NICA is only public pre-service TVET instructor training college in Uganda. It is a public institution of higher learning under the department of TVET Trainers’ Training Research and Innovation (TTTRI) in the Ministry of Education and Sports. It is a diploma science awarding institution affiliated to Kyambogo University and offers Diploma in instructor technical teacher education (DITTE) program in the various TVET disciplines that include: Civil and Building Engineering , Automobile Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Metal fabrication, Tailoring and garment design, Leather tuning and leather goods production and Agricultural production.

On top of these disciplines, NICA, gives support in modularization training, modular short course training, Continuous Professional Development(CPD) training and short course programs in both Engineering and life skills

The Pedagogy Instructors’ programme began under the former Abilonino Community Polytechnic College, which was mandated by the Government of Uganda to train instructors for Community Polytechnics and initially offered a two-year course for Advanced Craft students. Following reforms by the Ministry of Education and Sports, the programme was restructured and upgraded to the Diploma in Instructor Technical Teacher Education (DITTE), enabling the department to admit both Year One entrants from Advanced Craft and Year two entrants from Diploma-level programme in the fields of their specialization, thereby expanding access to Pedagogy instructor training.
